As 2016 comes to a close…

Well, here it is, the end of another year. For the past three years, I have chosen words to focus on in an attempt to expand my spirit and grow. In 2014, I chose Acceptance. In 2015, my choice was Gratitude. I had great success with both of those words. My spirit grew and I overcame a lot of adversary.

For 2016, I chose Abundance. I thought, how can I go wrong with something so beautiful? Well, the Universe has a way of laughing in my face sometimes. Oh, you want abundance? Are you sure? Fine, you asked for it! And boy did I ever get it. I forgot about an important rule – be careful what you ask for, especially if you aren’t specific enough.

The year began okay. I set goals for writing projects and didn’t really foresee problems completing them. But then I took on too many side projects because well, the Universe directed people to me who wanted to push my writing skills into other directions and I accepted this because that’s what I said I would do. Then I allowed myself to get bogged down in other people’s issues, figuring that the Universe had brought these things to me in an abundant way so that I could act as a guide or peace keeper. Boy was I wrong! These people didn’t want my help, they just wanted attention. In the end, I became anxious, panicky, and depressed. The depression grew, abundantly. I became ill over and over again, abundantly. I nearly lost my mind and was hospitalized. What suffered the most? My writing projects, in great abundance. From June until late September, I withdrew from the world. I wanted nothing more to do with Abundance. And even when I made a come-back in October, I’ve still struggled with my health, mental health, and some residual abundant effects.

So what’s my take-away from a year of Abundance? It can be both beautiful and brutal. Sometimes less really is more. I am now perfectly content with as little of everything as possible.

I actually thought about not bothering with a word for this year. I had two great successes and one huge failure. I thought, do I really want to put myself through this again? I finally decided that I would go for it one more year.

So, my word for 2017 is ENGAGE. You are probably wondering why I’ve chosen such a word. Well, for the last couple of years, I’ve had long periods where I have disengaged from the world, cut myself off from people, and not interacted with others like I should. I also support a few important causes which may be under jeopardy in the next four years, and I want to become engaged in those as well. And so, as I move forward into the uncertainty of 2017, it is my desire to engage once more with the outside world, with friends at home and on the internet, to interact with writers and artists, and throw my support behind causes that are important to me. As an introvert, I am pushing myself way out of my comfort zone. May the Universe have mercy on all of us *laughs*

03.07.16 – End of Day Notes

What I did today: Not much. I got up late after sleeping for about 12 hrs on a cold medicine induced sleep. Got my writing projects completed and have just been sitting around most of the evening feeling like crap. Going to wrap things up and call it a day.

What I learned today: When you tell someone that you don’t feel well, don’t ask them to do added projects. I guess I could have said no.

What I am most proud of today:  I said yes and thankfully the project only took a few minutes of my time. This abundance thing is really kicking me in the rear.

02.09.16 – End of Day Notes

What I did today: Today has been a busy day. I did all of my writing projects very very early this am (between 1am and 3am). Then I went back to bed. Later, I made this announcement over at Promptly Written. And tonight, I created a new weekly blog-share called Hump Day Poetry Blog-Share over at A Whispered Wind

What I learned today: When you ask the Universe to give you a year of Abundance, be prepared for anything.

What I am most proud of today: That I am open to all of the possibilities that the Universe has in store for me. No backing down. Just forward movement.

Leaving the Door Open to Fortune

Lady Fortune

I don’t read many horoscopes because they usually read like a bad fortune cookie, however I do follow Rob Brezsny’s horoscopes because they are more like words of wisdom than fortunes.

Here is mine for the week beginning on the 4th:

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Sufi teacher (and Gemini) Idries Shah offered
this teaching: “They say that when Fortune knocks, you should open the
door. But why should you make Fortune knock, by keeping the door
shut?” Let’s make this your featured meditation, Gemini. If there is
anywhere in your life where proverbial doors are shut — either in the world
outside of you or the world inside of you — unlock them and open them
wide. Make it easy for Fortune to reach you.

I feel like I have somewhat grasped this concept by accepting Abundance into my life this year. Being open to all possibilities. But I am wondering if I still have some closed doors that I need to open. I have been putting off working on some writing projects that really matter to me because I know they will force me to dig deep into my soul and that can be an ugly place to go sometimes. I also know that if I open this door, I may get some published work out of it. I guess you never really know unless you take that leap of faith.

Okay Lady Fortune, I am opening the door… let’s get it on!

As 2015 comes to a close…

As my readers may remember, I did a similar post last year, focusing on what a year of Acceptance taught me. I also posted my chosen word for 2015: Gratitude. This post will be along those same themes.

What a year of Gratitude has taught me…

Wow! What an incredible year it has been! By showing gratitude, I have opened myself up to so many blessings this year: love, forgiveness, and spiritual ascension.

When January rolled around, I wasn’t sure what would happen by focusing on Gratitude for a whole year; however, I soon discovered that I was not the only one doing this. People all over Facebook were focusing on this wonderful concept. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical at first, not of the process, but of my willingness to accept (what I learned last year) whatever would come my way as a result.

For the first few months, I kept a daily record of all that I was grateful for. This allowed me to use Gratitude as a habit. After those first few months though, I only wrote down my gratitude list on rare occasions, but I would wake up each morning and verbally state what I was grateful for that day and end each night with what I’d been grateful for that day. This became the practice that I followed for the remainder of the year.

So here are some highlights of my accomplishments throughout 2015, which I believe are a direct result of simply being grateful for life, those around me, and for my own self.

  1. During the month of April, I completed my very first 46,000 word novella. I have mostly been a short fiction and poetry writer, so this was a huge accomplishment for me.
  2. As many of you know, I held a lot of animosity toward my husband and pretty much blamed him for well… everything: mostly our failed marriage and my mental state. Some time in September, I began researching a Hawaiian healing technique called Ho’oponopono. During this time, each night as I went to sleep, I would repeat these words: “I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.” As I repeated these words, I would get flashes of everything I’d ever done to others or others had done to me. I continued repeating these words, night after night (and still do!). Finally, I took 100% responsibility for my role in my marriage and mental state as well as 100% responsibility for my husband’s role. Forgiveness came easily after that and I am happy to report that he and I are now speaking once again and have moved to a great place in our relationship. We have come to the realization that we are in better places apart and able to help others as a result.
  3. Using this same healing technique, I was able to mend an issue with a friend who I had parted ways with back in June. We are now in a good place again as well.
  4. In late August, I took control of my health by beginning a new way of life and eating. My health has greatly improved as a result of this.
  5. I have been working with my Reiki Master and others with spiritual ascension. I felt the Shift strongly on 11.11.15. It was amazing!
  6. Overall, I have felt love so strongly this entire year. I have let go of negative influences and embraced light and love. Any time anything negative does creep into my life, I shower it with love.

For anyone interested in Ho’oponopono:

And if you would like to listen to Joe Vitale’s book ZeroLimits:

So there you have it… my incredible grateful year!

This has also been a year of research for me. Here are just a few topics that I have been exploring:

  • Low Carb/Healthy Fats lifestyle
  • The causes of Diabetes and how to reverse it
  • Anything WW2
  • general research on vitamins and minerals
  • topics related to The Secret
  • The Kennedys, with a special emphasis on Robert Kennedy
  • possible courses I want to take on Udemy
  • alternative health and healing techniques

And now, I give you my word to concentrate on for 2016: ABUNDANCE. And in order to activate this, any time the Universe/Cosmic Hoohah/Muses, etc. present an opportunity to me, instead of asking myself “how will I accomplish this?” I will just say “YES” and allow it to come to me through Inspiration and Abundance. My mantra for this year is: “I Am Abundance. Everything around me and within me is abundant.”

Thank you for spending time with me as I reviewed my grateful year.

Love and Blessings…
