05.01.16 – End of Day Notes

What I did today: The ‘day’ started at 1 am. I just woke up in the wee hours of the morning and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I decided to do my writing projects. I did manage to complete everything today. I am also attempting to read more of the A2Z blogs that I missed over the April Challenge. Today I read 4 blogs, but only 3 of them completed the challenge.

What I learned today: The following cool stuff from reading those A2Z blogs:

  • JK @ Thoughts & Opinions where he gave us a tour of India for A2Z
  • Keith & Nicki @ ‘Til the Butter Melts discusses their upcoming sailing trip from Maine to Florida this summer and all the prep work it takes
  • Annette @ Annette’s Place explored mythological creatures for her A2Z. I learned some myths I’d never heard of through these posts!

What I am most proud of today: I am getting back into my regular routines. April was a mess of a month.

What did you do today, dear readers? Learn any lessons? Have a reason to be proud? Share your thoughts with me in the comments!

Circle of Friends – Week 1

Each Sunday in May, I will be joining Raili @ Soul Gifts for Circle of Friends. Hop on over and join us!

This week’s prompt for friendship is “mud mapping”. Here is my poor attempt at creating a Friendship Map and a small ditty after:

FriendMap

‘though you are few in number
and some online
your friendships are dear
and worthy of my time

I wouldn’t trade any of you
or wish for more
it’s quality I enjoy
mutually respect and adore

Song Lyric Sunday – Ghost by Indigo Girls

IndigoGirls

I am feeling a bit nostalgic today because it is an old friend’s birthday and she and I are no longer in contact. Back in the day (mid-90s), she and I would listen to the Indigo Girls during road trips. We knew every word to the entire Indigo Girls album (their 2nd, but first studio produced album) and would sing it. She would sing Emily’s parts and I would sing Amy’s. Those were some great times in my life. As a tribute to her, I give you today’s offering:

Ghost by Indigo Girls, lyrics via Metrolyrics

There’s a letter on the desktop that I dug out of a drawer
The last truce we ever came to
In our adolescent war
And I start to feel the fever
From the warm air through the screen
You come regular like seasons
Shadowing my dreams

And the Mississippi’s mighty
But it starts in Minnesota
At a place that you could walk across
With five steps down
And I guess that’s how you started
Like a pinprick to my heart
But at this point you rush right through me
And I start to drown

And there’s not enough room
In this world for my pain
Signals cross and love gets lost
And time passed makes it plain
Of all my demon spirits
I need you the most
I’m in love with your ghost
I’m in love with your ghost

Dark and dangerous like a secret (don’t tell a soul)
That gets whispered in a hush
When I wake the things I dreamed about you (don’t tell a soul)
Last night make me blush
And you kiss me like a lover
Then you sting me like a viper
I go follow to the river
Play your memory like a piper

And I feel it like a sickness
How this love is killing me
I’d walk into the fingers
Of your fire willingly
And dance the edge of sanity
I’ve never been this close
In love with your ghost, ooh

Ooh
Unknowing captor
You never know how much you
Pierce my spirit
But I can’t touch you
Can you hear it
A cry to be free
Oh I’m forever under lock and key
As you pass through me

Now I see your face before me
I would launch a thousand ships
To bring your heart back to my island
As the sand beneath me slips
As I burn up in your presence
And I know now how it feels
To be weakened like Achilles
With you always at my heels

This bitter pill I swallow
Is the silence that I keep
It poisons me I can’t swim free
The river is too deep
Though I’m baptized by your touch
I am no worse than most
In love with your ghost (in love with your ghost)

You are shadowing my dreams
(In love with your ghost)
(In love with your ghost)

Creative Questions 11 – Music

cc11

CQ11 – If you were a musical instrument which one would you be and why?

I would definitely be a piano. I would delight in fingers tickling my keys. Relish in the sounds vibrating from my strings. Enjoy in the various styles of music created from my being – classical, jazz, pop, funk, blues. I would be just as content in a grand hall, a smoky blues bar, or sitting in a corner of a modest home with a young child learning ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ or ‘Hot Cross Buns’.

I’ve always enjoyed the elegance of a piano. There is just something majestic about them. Their sizes and shapes. The keys, strings and peddles. It is the one musical instrument that I’ve always wanted to learn to play, but I never could get the hang of each hand doing something different on the keys. *sighs* it was just never going to be a skill I would pick up.

How about you, dear readers? What instrument would you choose and why? Share your thoughts with me in comments.
