02.21.16 – End of Day Notes

What I did today: Much of the same, I am afraid. Although, I did get up very early this morning around 4:30 am. Did some of my writing projects then crawled back into bed around 10-ish. During the late afternoon and early evening, I gazed longingly outside at the rising fog. The entire neighborhood was engulfed in it and you could barely see a foot in front of yourself. There is something supremely beautiful about a misty, rainy day with ravens cawing in the background. I enjoyed numerous “gap” moments as a result. I so love that kind of weather. I read some emails, some posts from challenges, and finally I am watching old Film Noir movies for research. A fairly boring, but typical day for me.

What I learned today: When it comes to books, I am a sucker for a discount.

What I am most proud of today: Not sure I am very proud of myself for anything today. Early this morning, I spent my entire book allowance for the next 2 months on 5 books from Amazon. I felt completely out of control and chided myself afterwards for spending nearly $40. It could have been worse, far worse if I’d had the money, so I should be proud of myself for not dipping into my savings to go completely overboard. They are books I’ve wanted for a while and I did purchase all 5 of them used. Still, the cost of shipping for each book was atrocious. All from separate bookstores. Now to remind myself for the next two months that I cannot purchase anymore, not even e-books.

What did you do today? Learn any lessons? Have a reason to be proud? Share your thoughts with me in the comments!

Song Lyric Sunday – Seemann by Apocalyptica

Apocalyptica-630x420

For today’s Song Lyric Sunday, I am introducing one of my favorite bands: Apocalyptica. They are a Finnish orchestral metal band. They say about themselves, “Classically trained, metal inspired.” The group currently consists of three cellists,  Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Antero Manninen, along with drummer Mikko Sirén. They’ve done a lot of covers, including Metallica and Rammstein. As well as a lot of their own music featuring other singers. This song is a cover for Rammstein’s song “Seemann,” featuring Nina Hagen and it is in German:

“Seemann” Lyrics via Lyrics Mode

Komm in mein Boot
Ein Sturm kommt auf und es wird Nacht
Wo willst du hin?
So ganz allein treibst du davon
Wer hält deine Hand
Wenn es dich nach unten zieht

Wo willst du hin
So uferlos die kalte See
Komm in mein Boot
Der Herbstwind hält die Segel straff

Jetzt stehst du da an der Laterne
Mit Tränen I’m Gesicht
Das Tageslicht fällt auf die Seite
Der Herbstwind fegt die Straße leer

Jetzt stehst du da an der Laterne
Hast Tränen I’m Gesicht
Das Abendlicht verjagt die schatten
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst

Komm in mein Boot
Die Sehnsucht wird der Steuermann
Komm in mein Boot
Der beste Seemann war doch ich

Jetzt stehst du da an der Laterne
Mit Tränen I’m Gesicht
Das Feuer nimmst du von der Kerze
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst

Sie sprachen nur von deiner Mutter
So gnadenlos ist nur die Nacht
Am Ende bleib ich doch alleine
Die Zeit steht still
Und mir ist kalt

Kalt…

Kalt…

And here is the English translation via Google Translate:

come into my boat
A storm is coming and it is night
Where are you going?
All alone you are drifting away
Who will hold your hand
When it pulls you down

Where are you going
So boundless the cold sea
come into my boat
The autumn wind keeps the sails stiff

Now you stand on the lantern
With tears I’m face
The daylight falls on the side
The autumn wind sweeps the street empty

Now you stand on the lantern
Have tears I’m face
The evening light chased the shadows
Time stands still and it will fall

come into my boat
The longing is the helmsman
come into my boat
The best sailor I was

Now you stand on the lantern
With tears I’m face
The fire you take from the candle
Time stands still and it will fall

They spoke only of your mother
So mercilessly is the night
In the end I do stay alone
Time stands still
And I’m cold

Cold

Cold
